Conversations with everyday people whose stories have inspired me to shift my mindset in times when I thought I had no choices left. As the wise Maya Angelou said "When you don't like something, change it. If you can't change it, change your attitude".
Are you a joy seeker or a hope dealer? Are you currently stuck and feeling isolated in your muck, or are you in a stage of life where your life experiences are improving the lives of others?
I am all of those things and I’m Stacey Haley - single Mama to my three Willowjak boys. My adult twins are both severely affected by autism and caregiving on my own is not easy. That’s why I have Liza McClelland as my right-hand sidekick. She is our millennial adopted aunt in the family who helps us out at home and will be on the podcast to help keep me on track.
In the toughest of times I’ve turned to the stories of other survivors of hard things to give me hope. From them, I’ve learned that there was a “before” and an “after” and it’s in how they chose to live their after, that determined their success. Like the Choose Your Own Adventure books, when faced with an obstacle, you’ve still always got a choice. I’m inspired by those who’ve chosen a positive mindset and this podcast will introduce you to them, so they can inspire you too.
This won’t just be a podcast about autism because I’m no expert. It won’t just be a podcast about parenting because I’m no expert at that either. But it will be a podcast where you can expect to hear the stories, tips and lessons that I’ve absorbed and used along the way in my own journey as a single mom to my boys.
You’re at a dead-end. What are you going to choose? I hope you’ll choose to join our growing Willowjak community and discover how you can take some nuggets from our chats to improve your own afters.

Scary medical diagnoses, divorce, step-parenting, grief, mental illness, caregiving, job loss, transitions, allyship - life is full of experiences that don't come with a guidebook.
Life also comes with stop-points where we have to make tough decisions that determine the next stage of our lives. The next best thing to a guidebook is a guide - a sherpa - a mentor - or people just like us who've been there, done that. Let's take a listen and learn from them.
"It's important to learn from your mistakes, but it is BETTER to learn from other people's mistakes, and it is BEST to learn from other people's successes. It accelerates your own success." - Jim Rohn
You want to learn how to feel hopeful in a hopeless situation.
You are so over the phony, BS, fake positivity. You don't mind the messy.
You really just want someone to tell you what freaking worked for them.
You have an actual, for real sense of humor and like jokes.
I'm an expert of nothing more than raising my three kids and still being here to tell the tale and that's got to count for something. There were so many times, heck - there are STILL so many times - when I wish I could just hand my decisions and stresses over to someone else to take care of it for me, but the buck stops here. But in the hardest of times, when I thought I had exhausted all of my best ideas to get unstuck, I looked to others. Hearing their stories gave me insights, light bulb moments and more than anything - HOPE - that helped me change my mindset and suddenly, I saw light at the end of the tunnel. Now I want to share that with you, so you don't have to experience as many stuck moments as I have.
you're in the right place.
Single Canadian mama of three (newly) adult sons; navigating parenting with kiddos affected by autism, mental illness and addiction. I've been stuck many times over and am on my own journey to wellness. I've learned a lot and have lived through a lot of messes; drawing on inspiration from others and committed to paying it forward by authentic sharing. Caregiving is often a lifelong commitment - I'm here to help.
